The Middle School at St. Jude’s is a transition between a typical elementary school, with contained classrooms, and where the students at times change classes. The Middle School operates in a semi-contained manner. In this system the students are monitored by a team of teachers who work with the students in their classes and serve as their advisors in their particular grade.
The Middle School is a school within a school. The curriculum is designed to meet the developmental level and needs of our students while preparing them for the high school. Our curriculum combines traditional topics with an emphasis on the process of learning. We want the students to be challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the information presented as they develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Our classes are a mix of teacher-directed activities, independent work, group work, and student projects and presentations. Our goal is to involve the students in a variety of projects and presentations and to develop their thinking skills in a variety of settings for learning. We provide a range of approaches to learning in order to match students' learning styles. Also this model serves to expand students' learning repertoires so that they can succeed in many different classrooms.
